What is Opside? Opside is a platform project, a base for developers to build dApps or Layer 3s connected to Layer 2s on Ethereum using Opside’s SDK toolkit. Opside also helps Layer 2 on Ethereum communicate with each other.
So what is Opside? What’s special about it? Let’s find out in this article!
What is Opside?
Overview of Opside
Opside is a ZK-Rollup-as-a-Service (ZK-RaaS) network, modular in architecture and Opside can be viewed as a Layer 2 to build dApps or Layer 3 with zkEVM technologies of Polygon, Zksync, Scroll, StarkNet,…
With a complex three-layer blockchain architecture, Opside combines the strengths of Proof-of-Stake (PoS) and Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanisms. And Opside connects to most Layer 2s built on Ethereum, so applications will interact with those connected networks like an omnichain.
Optical Rollup Layer is an extensible solution that performs off-chain transactions, so this layer does not have to compete for the block space of the Execution Layer. Rollup offloads costly transaction processes from on-chain to off-chain.
After a transaction is committed, a batch of transaction data or proof of execution is sent to the Execution Layer, where it is validated and finalized. Therefore, the Rollup scaling solution is protected by the same security measures as the Execution layer, which serves as the source of truth for Rollups.
A zero-knowledge EVM (zkEVM) recreates existing EVM opcodes for proof in circuits, allowing the execution of smart contracts in a ZK-friendly environment. Rollup Layer uses several zkEVMs that can effectively verify the correctness of program execution to meet various requirements of dApps.
Opside Rollup Layer will include the following types of ZK-Rollup environments:
Public Environment: The general use environment is where regular users and developers interact with Rollup Layer. To ensure zkEVM is safe, stable, and reliable for running general-use compilations, Opside proceeds from two perspectives: Usage Polygon Hermez, Scroll, Taiko,… And Opside also has a close relationship with ZKWasma ZKWASM-based scaling framework in development, is designed to be friendly to applications from the traditional Webassembly community, including web, gaming, and social applications.
App-Specific Environment: Regarding Application-specific Rollup, Opside will provide a standalone execution environment for projects in need through specialized configuration and optimization to meet the different needs of Applications in terms of performance and the economic model. Since valid zero-knowledge proofs still need to be submitted to Opside, these customization changes will not affect the security of this rollup type. Such Rollups will also be registered in Opside Rollup Slots and enjoy additional features, including cross-rollup communication, pre-compiled ZKP verification contracts, etc.
Structure of the Opside network
The structure of Opside is clearly distinguished as follows:
- L1, Public Chain: Examples include Ethereum, BNB Chain, and Polygon.
- L2, Opside Chain: Opside brings scalable decentralized consensus, data availability, and zero-knowledge proof (ZKP) computing capabilities. All transactions and data created on-chain go through validation and are stored on Layer 2 (L2). As a result, transactions are carried out quickly and fees remain minimal.
- L3, Rollup Layer: Rollups offload resource-intensive computations off-chain, thereby improving scalability. Opside provides a variety of Zero-Knowledge-Rollup software development kits (SDKs), especially zkEVM including Polygon Hermez, Scroll, Taiko, zkSync,… Developers can easily deploy their own Opside Layer 3 (L3) ZK-Rollup projects with just one click, while the Opside network provides all the necessary hardware resources.
The different layers are interconnected via separate cross-chain bridges, allowing assets to be transferred seamlessly from Layer 1 (L1) to Layer 2 (L2) or Layer 3 (L3).
Opside has a cross-chain bridge that supports asset interoperability between ETH and other public chains with the Opside chain. This bridge is in use solution of chainsafe and is run by the official Opside team. Sending events on one chain are detected by a set of trusted off-chain relays, wait for the final decision, send the event to another chain, and vote on the sending to gain acceptance to trigger appropriate processing.
In addition, Opside also has a bridge The Rollup bridge serves as a connection between the Opside chain and the rollup chain built on Opside. And ZK-Bridge, establish connections with the asset class’s various public chains. Compared to other bridge schemes, the ZK-Rollup scheme involves more anti-ZK systems.
The Opside difference
- ZK-RaaS: ZK-Rollup has advantages that Op-Rollup does not: safer, more trustless, and faster withdrawals.
- Full hardware support: Miners provide computing power through the ZKP consolidated market. Developers can have their own ZK-Rollups without paying any hardware costs.
- 0 gas fees: Developers are free to adjust gas fees, even to zero. Thus, users do not need to pay any fees.
- Cross-rollup communication: ZK-Rollups will share the same interface specification and data structure, implementing native cross-roll communication.
- EVM compatible: Opside provides different types of zkEVM SDKs, including Polygon zkEVM, Scroll, zkSync, StarkNet,…
- Custom economic models: Developers have sovereignty over ZK-Rollup and can customize the rollup economic model, including choosing the gas token.
- Fully on-chain: All project data, including games, financial derivatives and social networks, can be fully online.
- More decentralized: Opside adopts improved ETH2.0 PoS consensus and will have more than 100k validators.
