What is Frame?
Frame is a Layer 2 platform using Optimistic Rollup technology from Arbitrum Nitro of Arbitrum developer Offchain Labs. In addition, Frame has almost absolute EVM compatibility to help developers easily migrate DApps and Protocols from Ethereum and Frame is built to serve the NFT market.
The fact that Frame is optimally built for NFTs makes NFTs considered first-class citizens on the platform. Some outstanding features with Frame include:
- Royalties: Earn royalties through Palette Protocol.
- Asset Security: There will be new standards, protocol layer changes, and more options to keep assets safe. In addition, Frame also inherits security and decentralization from Ethereum.
- Creator Fund: Frame will have a budget to support developers and promote the ecosystem with transaction fees on the platform.
Mechanism of action
Frame is an Optimistic Rollup platform with a number of outstanding operating mechanisms as follows:
- Step 1: Transactions on Frame will be put into batches by Sequencers. Each batch will contain from a few hundred to a few thousand transactions, thereby reducing transaction fees on Frame.
- Step 2: Sequencer will send batches to Ethereum. Besides, Proposers will send State Root (network state) to Ethereum.
- Step 3: State Root will be left on Ethereum for 7 days, this is also known as the challenge period. If nothing happens within 7 days, the State Root is considered correct by default and will be updated on Ethereum. If a party sends a Fraud Proof to prove that the State Root contains fraudulent transactions, the dispute resolution process will be turned on and handled by an On-chain Contract.
- Step 4: Fraudulent transactions will be reversed and the Frame network will return to the pre-transaction stage.
Optimistic Rollup works relatively simple and easy to understand, but it also creates a few disadvantages in the user experience such as withdrawing money from Layer 2 to Ethereum will have a long delay.
