What is Caldera? Caldera is a platform project that supports building highly refined Appchains. Caldera uses the OP Stack toolkit and Optimistic Rollup technology for Appchains. The project is invested by large funds such as Sequoia, Dragonfly, 1kx. Caldera also receives support from Arbitrum Orbit and OP Stack.
So what is so special about Caldera that it receives so much attention? Let’s find out in this article!

What is Caldera?
Overview of Caldera
Caldera is a Layer 2 built on OP Stack and uses Optimistic Rollup technology. As a Layer 2, Caldera is not used to build dApps but is used to build other Layer 2 or Layer 3 called Caldera Chains. Caldera Chains are highly customized Appchains, suitable for each individual application need.
Caldera uses OP Stack’s technology so it is quite scalable and customizable. Thanks to that, Caldera Chains can choose a consensus location such as Layer 1 Ethereum, Avalanche, BNB Chain,… or Layer 2 such as Arbitrum, Optimism,… And especially the data is transferred to be stored at EigenLayer or Celestia .
The blockchain is built on Caldera delivers high throughput, low latency, and customizable features to optimize the performance and user experience of decentralized applications. With the ability to process hundreds of transactions per second and confirmation time under 1 second.
Caldera has many similarities with Optimism as it is Layer 2 but supports building other Layer 2s. But the difference is that OP Stack will support multiple types of proofs and the ability to choose Layer 1 for consensus. Caldera is only supporting a single type of proof, Optimistic, data will be chosen to be stored in Eigen DA or Celestia and the base layer can be chosen as any EVM (both Layer 1 and Layer 2).
Structure of the Caldera
The Caldera Chain is the upper layer that transfers Fault Proofs to an EVM Chain for consensus and the data will be transferred to storage on EigenLayer or Celestia.
Highlights of the Caldera
- Is the basis for building Appchains.
- Highly scalable and scalable thanks to OP Stack.
- Data stored on Eigen DA or Celestia reduces transaction fees.
- The forward dynamic layer can be chosen as any EVm Chain.
- Allows payment of gas fees using Appchain’s native Token.
- Fully compatible with EVM.
- There is a Hyperlane bridge, connecting Caldera Chains with other Layer 1s.

Summary
Caldera is a highly scalable infrastructure that provides the facilities to build multiple chains tailored to each individual dApp’s characteristics. Caldera uses the OP Stack and Optimistic Rollup toolset for Appchains. But if Caldera supports more types of proofs like OP Stack is aiming for, the product will be more diverse.
So I have clarified what Caldera is? Caldera cryptocurrency overview. Hope the article brings a lot of useful information!
