What is Linea? Linea is a zkRollup platform built and developed on Ethereum and backed by Consensys – the parent company of Metamask, Infura and many other important products for Ethereum. Besides zkRollup, Linea also built its own zkEVM with many optimal features that I will mention in the article below.

What is Linea?
Linea overview
Linea is a zkRollup platform built and developed by the Consensys team on Ethereum. In addition to zkRollup, Consensys has also built zkEVM to help developers easily expand from Ethereum to Linea without spending too much effort, money and time.
Some typical features of Linea include:
- Low Feet: As a zkRollup platform itself, Linea will certainly bring fast transaction speed and extremely low transaction fees to users, expected to be 100 – 1,000 times cheaper and faster for users.
- EVM Equivalent: Linea brings Ethereum compatibility to developers so they can easily migrate or develop multichain from Ethereum or other EVM Blockchains to Linea.
- Secured by Ethereum: As a Layer 2 on Ethereum, Linea inherits the security and decentralization from Ethereum.
- Next gene scability: With the next generation zk proof, Linea continues to expect to bring even more scalability to its users.
zkRollup is a solution that is highly appreciated by programmers and even Vitalik Buterin. However, zkRollup technology and projects are only in the early stages of development.
Linea itself will focus on building all the pieces to form a powerful web3 platform including: DeFi, NFTs, Gaming, Payments and Infastructure. Linea has some clear advantages over some other zkRollup platforms including:
- Built by Infura – the company that has built so many successful products like Infura or Metamask.
- As a company specializing in building infrastructure platforms, Linea infrastructure will have a solid and stronger foundation than other zkRollup platforms.
- Consensys’ relationship with Ethereum will help the Linea ecosystem soon explode similar to Coinbase’s Base.
Linea’s mechanism of action
Linea’s mechanism of action is as follows:
- Step 1: Squencer is responsible for arranging transactions on Linea for a certain period of time into 1 block in addition to verifying the correctness of the transaction.
- Step 2: At the same time, Provers are responsible for creating transaction proof for all transactions included in a block by Squencer.
- Step 3: After successfully packaging the transaction into a block, this block will be sent to Ethereum.
- Step 4: At Ethereum, the network’s validators will verify transaction evidence in the block instead of rechecking all transactions.
- Step 5: Successful verification of the block being included in the Ethereum main chain.
Linea’s operating mechanism is similar to other zkRollup or Optimistic Rollup platforms. Linea uses ZK Proof to validate blocks at Layer 1. The main difference between Rollup platforms will mainly lie in how compatible zkEVM is compared to EVM.
Linear’s ecosystem
Although newly formed, Linea has received the support of many projects including: Uniswap, Hop Protocol, Lens Protocol, Covalent, Celer, FutureSwap,… Some updated articles about the Linea ecosystem for everyone You can refer to below:

Core Team
Linea is built and developed by Consensys. ConsenSys was founded in 2014 by Joseph Lubin, former co-founder of Ethereum. Lubin is an experienced cryptocurrency investor and entrepreneur. He believes strongly in the potential of blockchain technology and wants to help promote its development. ConsenSys offers a range of products and services for businesses and individuals looking to participate in the Ethereum ecosystem. The company’s most famous products include:
- MetaMask: An online cryptocurrency wallet that allows users to store and use Ethereum and other cryptocurrencies.
- Infura: A blockchain infrastructure platform that provides access to Ethereum nodes for developers.
- Tenderly: A Blockchain testing platform that allows developers to test Ethereum smart contracts before deploying them on the mainnet.
Joseph Lubin: CEO & Founder
- Joseph was born and raised in Toronto, Canada. Joseph attended the University of Waterloo, where Joseph graduated with a degree in software engineering.
- After graduating, Joseph worked for Goldman Sachs for six years, where he focused on the technology, cryptography, and finance sectors.
- In 2013, Joseph met Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum. The two shared a passion for blockchain technology and decided to cooperate to develop Ethereum. Lubin played a key role in the development of Ethereum, including writing white papers and helping build the Ethereum community.
- In 2014, Lubin founded ConsenSys. The company offers a range of products and services to businesses and individuals looking to participate in the Ethereum ecosystem. ConsenSys products and services include MetaMask, Infura, Truffle, PegaSys and Quorum.
